Frequently asked questions
- How many words does the dictionary contain?
- The word list contains over 172,000 English words from the ENABLE dictionary, which is the standard reference for North American word games including Scrabble.
- How does the unscrambler work?
- The tool loads the complete word list into your browser, then checks every possible combination of your input letters against the dictionary. It finds all valid words of every length, from 2-letter words up to the full set of letters.
- Is my text sent to a server?
- No. The word list is downloaded once to your browser and all processing happens locally. Your letters never leave your device.
- Can I use blank tiles or wildcards?
- Yes. Use a question mark (?) to represent a blank tile or wildcard. The tool will try every letter of the alphabet in that position.
- Why does it take a moment the first time?
- The word list file needs to download to your browser on the first use. After that, your browser may cache it for faster subsequent visits.
- What if my word is not in the results?
- The tool uses the ENABLE word list, which is comprehensive but does not include every English word — particularly very new words, slang, or proper nouns. If a word is missing, it is likely not in the ENABLE dictionary.
- Does letter order matter?
- No. The unscrambler finds all possible words from your letters regardless of the order you enter them.
- Is there a limit on the number of letters?
- There is no hard limit, but very long inputs (beyond 15 letters) may take longer to process since the number of possible combinations grows rapidly.
